Bàsquet Girona joins “The signing we’re missing”, the new campaign by the Albert Bosch Foundation, an entity promoted by Noel, to raise funds for pediatric oncology research at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. This coming Saturday, March 28, coinciding with the Liga ACB match against Real Madrid, the Fontajau pavilion will become the setting for a solidarity event to raise awareness of the need to boost research into childhood cancer.
The campaign aims to raise €910,000 to enable the launch of a new pioneering scientific infrastructure in Spain dedicated to pediatric oncology at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR). This new high-performance unit will be made up of highly qualified professionals in translational research, a specialized team of doctors, bioinformaticians and researchers, as well as advanced robotic technology, and will help accelerate the development of new drugs specifically for childhood cancer.
The name of the campaign, “The signing we’re missing”, is a metaphor representing the creation of this cutting-edge research unit, using the language of sport to place at the center of the debate a scientific and social need that is still not very visible.
In the words of Cristina Sanz, director of the Albert Bosch Foundation, “each year more than 1,000 cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed in Spain, of which more than 170 are in Catalonia. These figures highlight the urgency of promoting specialized research that expands therapeutic options and offers stronger hope to patients and their families. For this reason, actions like the one this Saturday at the Fontajau pavilion are essential to bring the conversation about pediatric oncology beyond the strictly medical field and involve society as a whole.”

During the match between Bàsquet Girona and Real Madrid, the Fontajau pavilion will be filled with solidarity through various initiatives designed to encourage fans to support the project. The festive atmosphere will include the sale of exclusive campaign merchandise, such as jerseys signed by the players or scarves in the club shop, the sale of xuixos, as well as donations linked to ticket purchases.
On the court, the team’s commitment will be visible from the very first moment: the players and the club’s mascot, Cocollona, will appear in the official presentation wearing “The signing we’re missing” shirt. Then, one of the foundation’s children will deliver the ball for the opening tip-off. The highlight of the day will come at halftime with a special performance by Teràpia de Shock, who are currently on a charity tour in support of the foundation, bringing a musical touch to Fontajau in support of the campaign.

Beyond the match, the connection between the Albert Bosch Foundation, Bàsquet Girona and Teràpia de Shock was already evident during a training session prior to the event. Pau, a child undergoing cancer treatment, and his brother Blai visited the sports facilities accompanied by Ferran Massegú, singer of Teràpia de Shock.
During this meeting, players Derek Needham, Mark Hughes, Martinas Geben and Pep Busquets, together with coach Moncho Fernández, shared an unforgettable moment with the children, practicing shots and signing “The signing we’re missing” jerseys for them. In addition, the singer from Teràpia de Shock took the opportunity to teach the chorus of the group’s popular song “Sense tu” to the players and the children. An emotional meeting for all parties ahead of this Saturday’s game.
